Michael J. Blate, age 53 (1964-2017)of North Canton, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2017. He was born in Akron, Ohio on Sept. 22, 1964. Mike was a 1982 graduate of Central Catholic High School, and attended Walsh University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Management and Finance. Mike was a member of St. Paul Catholic Parish and was a leader in the EDGE program. He loved all sports and in particular Walsh University basketball. He previously coached his boys in football at Jackson Pee Wee Football League and St. Michael.
While I didn’t have the chance to know Michael Blate very well, I did do some business with him over the years and he always seemed like an honest and hardworking man. He was self-employed like myself, who built IPG Global Marketing and Slick Woody’s Cornhole Company over the last decade. Both businesses had become very successful for him and his family. Matt Guy, the seven time ACO World Champion “King of Cornhole”, was a very good friend of Mike’s and had nothing but great things to say about him when we discussed his passing the other day at the OK Horseshoe Club in Cincinnati.
It was a great loss for his family, Matt Guy and the Cornhole community.
Rest in peace.
