American Cornhole Organization has selected Turfway Park in Florence, Ky., as host site for the eighth annual World Championships of Cornhole, set for July 17-20, 2013.
“It’s exciting to be back at Turfway Park for another premier event. Turfway Park last held an ACO event in 2010. We are familiar with the property and believe it will offer our players and spectators a unique experience,” said ACO president Frank Geers.
The ACO World Championships of Cornhole has grown from 64 participants in the inaugural competition to more than 250 last year. With the addition of the ACO Corporate Cup, an exclusive competition for companies in the Cincinnati metropolitan area, the number of competitors this year could reach nearly 400.
Prize purses have also increased from $2,000 the first year to now more than $10,000 guaranteed. Entry fees contribute to purses; based on participation, this year’s ACO Worlds could offer purses as high as $50,000.
The tournament is open to anyone interested in participating. The individual entry fee for participation in singles and/or doubles tournaments throughout the competition, called the Golden Ticket, ranges from $100 to $300. Ticket pricing tiers are based on available stock and add to a growing purse. World Championship hopefuls can learn more about the event and secure tickets here.
Spectators are welcome and admitted free of charge. The tournaments start each day at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 11p.m. Each day offers a variety of singles and doubles competitions.
Sponsor programs are also available. Those interested in learning more about sponsorship should call the American Cornhole office at (888) 563-2002.
