HAMILTON — This city’s German Village charmed them into bringing one of four national championships here for the first time, officials announced Monday.

“They visited the area, and they fell in love with it,” said city spokesman Chris Lawson.

Kortney Borowitz, spokeswoman for the Milford-based cornhole organization, said she was part of a contingent that scoped out the historic neighborhood – and found that it fit the bill.

“It was a very cool atmosphere there, a perfect kind of place for our street-festival style of tournament,” Borowitz said. “We’re hoping to make this an annual event.”

The Hamilton Cornhole Cup, which runs June 22-24, is expected to draw up to 128 four-person crews and hundreds of spectators. Players of any skill level may enter and vie for a share of the $20,000 total purse to be distributed among five payouts in three tournaments.

“The three-day event promises to bring a festive atmosphere to the city and will include family activities, food, bands and high-profile matches,” Lawson said. He’s sure the event will bring a significant boost to the local economy.
