GAME PLAY RULES

Setup

Determining who pitches first: Any fair method can be used such as a coin toss or one die toss with highest value winning.
The winner chooses: dice color, throws first and picks side of board to pitch from.

The Pitch

  1. Doubles competition. Partners stand directly across from one another and remain on their side of the board throughout the entire game.
  2. Players must deliver the bag with an underhand release.
  3. If the player crosses the foul line during release, that die does not count for the frame. If it effects other dice in the process, those dice effected are placed back in as close as a position prior to being hit.
  4. Each team alternates pitching dice until all three of that team’s dice have been pitched.
  5. During team play, the non-pitching side takes score and then the score is called out and marked on the score board.

Scoring

  1. Dice are awarded points based on the numerical value of the number of PIPs showing. PIPs are the dots on the sides of the dice.
  2. Dice must come to rest completely on the board (no part touching the ground) to earn points.
    • Dice that land and remain on the ground in front of the board can be removed before the next pitch occurs and is scored a zero (0).
  3. Dice that hit the ground and bounce up, coming to rest on the board are counted for points.
  4. Each dice that is thrown or knocked into the hole subtracts 3 points from the total added value of the dice that land on the board.
    • In any round, the lowest score for a player will be zero (0). Dice in the hole do not subtract from previous rounds’ scores, or result in negative points.
  5. A “leaner” is a dice that is not flat against the surface of the board. For example, the dice is positioned where players cannot determine which PIP value to assign, or the dice leans against another dice on the board.
    • A leaner is given a value of three (3) points.
    • A leaner can only be counted as a leaner if all dice have been thrown for the frame.
  6. If a die is not pulled that is laying on the ground in front of the board and a die lands on the board but is also touching the dice on the ground, the die on the ground will gently be swept and if the die on the board stays on the board, it is good. If it comes off, it become zero.
  7. Games are played to 21 and only need to be won by 1 point.

ACO will use the ACO rules book as reference for any ruling in question.
